What is Grammar?

The rules and regulations of any language are called grammar.


What is a Letter?

The basic unit of any language is called a letter.
Example: A, B, C, D … Z


What is a Word?

A group of letters that gives some meaning is called a word.
Examples: write, play, go, come, read, school, Ahmed, village, etc.


What is a Sentence?

A group of words that gives complete meaning is called a sentence.

Examples:

  • I go to school.

  • I play cricket.

  • He writes the lesson.

  • She cooks the meal.

  • They offer the prayer.

  • She sings the song .

  • He kills the snack.


Types of Sentences

There are five types of sentences:

  1. Declarative sentence

  2. Negative sentence

  3. Interrogative sentence

  4. Imperative sentence

  5. Exclamatory sentence


Declarative Sentence

A sentence that shows a statement is called a declarative sentence.

Examples:

  • I go to school.

  • She cooks the meal.

  • He goes to the city.

  • They play cricket.


Negative Sentence

A sentence that shows a negative meaning is called a negative sentence.

Examples:

  • I do not go to school.

  • She does not cook the meal.

  • He does not go to the city.

  • They do not play cricket.


Interrogative Sentence

A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.

Examples:

  • What is your name?

  • Where do you live?

  • Who are you?

  • Does he go to the city?


Parts of a Sentence

There are three parts of a sentence:

  1. Subject

  2. Verb

  3. Object


What is a Subject?

The doer of an action is called the subject.


What is a Verb?

A verb is an action word in a sentence.


What is an Object?

The part of a sentence on which an action is done is called the object.

Examples:

  • I go to school.

  • I play cricket.

  • He writes the lesson.

  • She cooks the meal.

  • They offer the prayer.


Parts of Speech

There are 8 parts of speech in English grammar:

  1. Noun

  2. Pronoun

  3. Verb

  4. Adjective

  5. Adverb

  6. Preposition

  7. Conjunction

  8. Interjection


What is a Noun?

A noun is the name of a person, place, animal, or thing.

Examples: school, city, Ahmed, girl, boy, Asif, Kashif, hospital, father, mother, home, village, doll


What is a Pronoun?

A pronoun is a word which used instead of noun is called pronoun.

Examples: I, we, you, he, she, it, they


What is an Adjective?

An adjective is a word that shows the quality, quantity, kind, or color of a noun or pronoun.

Examples: beautiful, clever, sharp, happy, sad, good, bad, loud, dirty, bright, clean, tall, short, thin, long, narrow, white, black


What is an Adverb?

An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb in the sentence is called adverb.

Examples: slowly, fast, cleverly, loudly, very, well, now, already, here, there, before, after, morning, evening


What is a Preposition?

A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between a noun (or pronoun) and another word in a sentence.

Examples: in, on, above, over, into, under, through, across


What is a Conjunction?

A conjunction is a word that joins words, phrases, or sentences together.

Examples of Conjunctions: and, but, or, so, because, although, yet, if, while

Examples in Sentences:

  • 1.      I like tea and coffee.

    2.      She is tired, but she keeps working.

    3.      Do you want tea or coffee?

    4.      He was hungry, so he ate a sandwich.

    5.      I stayed home because it was raining.

    6.      Although it was late, she finished her homework.

    7.      He tried hard, yet he could not solve the problem.

    8.      You can come with me if you want.

    9.      I listened to music while cooking dinner.

    10.  Call me when you reach home.

    11.  Wash your hands before eating.

    12.  We can go for a walk after the rain stops.

    13.  I have known her since childhood.

    14.  You will fail unless you study.

    15.  She smiled as she received the gift.

    16.  He went to work though he was sick.

    17.  Wait here until I come back.

    18.  I will support you even if others disagree.

    19.  He loves cats, whereas I prefer dogs.

    20.  She bought fruits, for she wanted to make a salad.

     21. I like tea and coffee.

    22.He is poor but honest.

    23.Work hard or you will fail.

    24. She was late because she missed the bus.

    25. I will go if you come.


What is an Interjection?

An interjection is a word that expresses sudden feelings or emotions of the mind, such as joy, surprise, pain, sorrow, or anger.

Examples: Oh!, Wow!, Alas!, Hurrah!, Oops!, Ah!, Hey!

Examples in Sentences:

Absolutely! Here’s a list of 20 sentences using interjections, each showing sudden emotions or reactions:

  1. Wow! That’s an amazing painting.

  2. Ouch! I stubbed my toe.

  3. Hurray! We won the match.

  4. Oh no! I forgot my homework.

  5. Hey! Watch where you’re going.

  6. Oops! I spilled the juice.

  7. Alas! The concert was canceled.

  8. Yikes! That was a huge spider.

  9. Bravo! You performed wonderfully.

  10. Aha! I finally solved the puzzle.

  11. Oh! I didn’t see you there.

  12. Eureka! The experiment worked.

  13. Phew! That was a close call.

  14. Hmm… I’m not sure about that answer.

  15. Yay! We’re going on a trip.

  16. Ugh! This food tastes awful.

  17. Ah! What a beautiful sunset.

  18. Whoa! That was a fast car.

  19. Huh? I don’t understand.

  20. Oof! That hit really hurt.

21.  Alas! He lost the match.

Note: An interjection is usually followed by an exclamation mark (!)
